Sooooooo......I had an appointment with a Doctor yesterday---a specialist, no less, that I thought, prayed, HOPED would be able to help and be INTERESTED in helping with "IT" . Unfortunately, my visit reinforced why most visits to doctors are a waste of time for me.
Before the visit, I did A LOT of research (based on the direction the heart specialist suggested) and spent a lot of money on books so that I could be as informed as possible. I try not to "pre-diagnose" myself being that I haven't been to medical school. However, I have found that doctors generally spend so little time with patients, the more informed I am, the more I can "cut to the chase."
After listing off my symptoms and trying to express to her VERY PLAINLY that whatever "IT" is is making me miserable and stealing a lot of my ability to live normally, she discussed what testing could be done. (I suggested one thing that might be the cause of "IT," and could easily be tested with the other blood tests she was doing and she REFUSED to test for that. HELLOOOOOOOO---I'm paying for it!)
I also asked if she would test something I KNOW I have. Eight years ago I was diagnosed with Epstein Barr Virus. Since I haven't been retested for 8 years, I thought it might be a good idea. She told me she DOESN'T know how to order that blood test. I would have to make another appointment with another doctor that DOES know how to order that test. Can we not look in a book or call someone to find out?????
She then told me that they would call with the results (for the tests she is willing to test for.) If nothing showed on the blood tests,
I could come back in for re-testing in SIX months.
That was it. End of discussion. She was ready to walk out the door.
NOT. SO. QUICKLY. MISSY!!
As she reached for the door handle, I spit out, "Well, can you recommend what I might do if the tests don't show anything?"
She quickly gave me another specialist I could try. GREAT. JUST GREAT.
I think who I REALLY need is to see Dr. Gregory House, of the HOUSE tv show. HIS team would find an answer. Oh wait---it seems like most of their patients vomit blood before House and team take on their case.....I haven't done that yet.......
Speaking of TV splendor--in spite of finding the doctor depressing, I was able to rejuivenate myself last night by watching THE BATCHELOR.
I don't care what anyone thinks. It makes me happy.......at least until the couples break up a few months after each finale......

Well said. I do hope "IT" can be found to have a cure. I REALLY do! I'm there for you if you need me.
Sometimes I get more sick when I am sitting in the exam room waiting for a doctor to come in. You know, for the usual half hour. So sorry about your frustrations. My BFF has Epstein Barr, and it was tough to get that diagnosis. Have you considered a nurse practioner? My SIL and MIL swear by them.
I don't know if you thought of this, but you should consider a different doctor... just a thought. Maybe you should find one who listens really well. Yeah, that's my suggestion for you. A different doctor. Yup.
Seriously, that is just annoying! They get their money from the insurance company whether they diagnose you or not, so what do they care? She sounds like a doctor born in wenchland.
